Pretty good deal if you don't have Alder trees around where you can harvest them in the wild.There are an unusual number of reviews talking about these killing their fish and shrimp. I think you need to realize that the alder cones are basically tannin bombs, so if you throw a handful of these into a tank, it's gonna throw all your parameters off overnight, which most fish won't be able to deal with easily.I would recommend boiling these first and then adding a couple at a time and monitoring things like pH. I added 4 boiled cones to my 40 gallon and there were more than enough leftover tannins. I plan on monitoring for a week and then adding a few more until the bag is gone.
